Brackishwater Research Farm Facility is an on-campus facility of Institute of Fisheries Post Graduate Studies, (IFPGS) Vaniyamchavadi, Chennai functioning under Tamil Nadu Dr. J. Jayalalitha Fisheries University. Brackish water Research Farm Facility has many advanced infra structure facilities such as Raceway, lined pond and water quality laboratory situated in one acre land. The main objectives of this facility is, to promote culture and breeding activities of brackishwater fish and shrimp species and analysis of water and sediment quality and also estimation of microbiology parameters from the samples received from fish and shrimp farmers.
Technology on Aerobic Microbial Floc (AMF) in intensive nursery and Growout culture of Peneaus vannamei was developed and by adopting this technology 549 kg healthy shrimps were harvested with 95% survival. This Shrimp Harvest Mela was inaugurated by the Honorable Minister for Fisheries.
